David Braley Cardiac, Vascular and Stroke Research Institute

The David Braley Cardiac, Vascular and Stroke Research Institute is a $90-million Research Centre located on the campus of  the Hamilton General Hospital. This six-storey 165,000 square feet facility is  home to 500+ scientists conducting research on behalf of  two distinguished Institutes – the Population Health Research Institute and the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute.

The building provides three floors of research office space, as well meeting rooms, breakout spaces, experimental pathology, and wet laboratories.  Unique features includes a vivarium and Canada’s largest biobank which stores more than 1.8 million tissue and genetic research samples.

HGC Engineering was involved with the schematic and detailed design review of the building services as well as some of the occupant activities, both with regard to occupant sensitivity to noise and noise from other activities. It included the control of noise from emergency generators and high voltage transformers building impacting on sensitive lab space, as well as conducting an environmental noise assessment in support of an Ontario Ministry of the Environment approval requirement.
