The Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (CCIS) was built to bring together five separate campus research locations, and several departments of the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Science. The 562,000sq. foot building consists of 3 linked towers (5,6 and 7 stories) and 2 adjoining lecture theatres with a combined total of 2,225 seats. It also includes wet and dry laboratories, classrooms, faculty and graduate student offices and support spaces.
Built at a cost of $360 million, the centre was designed to facilitate research and collaboration across traditional scientific disciplines within and beyond the Faculty of Science.
CCIS was also constructed to achieve a LEED Silver rating in an effort to bring natural light into the interior spaces while reducing energy consumption of the building.
HGC Engineering provided acoustical engineering for all aspects of this new campus institution.
