Aura at College Park

Aura is Canada’s tallest residential only building at 78 floors and a monument to Toronto’s 10-year plus building boom. The glass tower, located at Yonge and Gerrard Sts has 985 apartments. This luxury development also features a sculpture-studded public gallery, a marble-lined lobby and a five-bedroom penthouse occupying the entire top floor is priced at $18.4 million.
It is also home to a retail-focused, three story podium which is situated directly above a major subway line minus the pillars usually needed to support the 1.35 million square feet of above-grade construction, nine banks of elevators and 985 condo suites. Engineers devised a 5th floor concrete “transfer slab” to overcome this restriction. The slab is 2.5 metres thick and took two months to build. We were brought in to do vibration monitoring during construction and then awarded acoustical consulting responsibilities for the residential portion of the building.
Interestingly, the Aura is so tall there are mechanical, transformer and elevator machine rooms distributed on floors throughout the building directly along side condo suites creating unusual acoustical related challenges.
