Ian Bonsma BASc, INCE, PEng Associate, Manager Western Region, Sr. Acoustical Engineer

Ian works in all areas of acoustical engineering covering a wide variety of projects including architectural acoustical design of buildings, industrial environmental noise, and vibration assessments.

As HGC’s Western Regional Manager, he has been serving and building our presence in the area for some time.  In the summer of 2019, Ian relocated to Calgary, Alberta in order to lead a permanent base for HGC Engineering in Western Canada. Ian’s acoustical engineering experience and know-how with relation to local and federal regulations and by-laws have guided him in serving our clients in Western Canada.

Project highlights over his career include the Southern Alberta Eye Center in Calgary; various Goodlife Fitness Clubs across Canada; the Waterloo Regional Police Services in Ontario, The Dupont Experimental Station in Delaware; and Georgia-Pacific locations across the United States.

Another acoustical area of focus and expertise for Ian has been the renewable energy sector where he has assisted wind and solar operators, developers, governing agencies, and manufacturers, with noise assessments, acoustic audits, warranty sound power measurements and noise complaint investigations. His renewable energy projects span the Americas, including the Lake Winds Energy Park in West Michigan, the McLean’s Mountain Wind Farm Project in Ontario, and the Cerro de Hula Wind Farm in Honduras. He is also active in the wind turbine noise community providing input to regulatory agencies on their policies for wind turbine noise.
